Tuesday 22nd January

A nice little day on the patch including a very odd sighting off 5 Dunlins which were feeding in the paddocks, and there was also a single Waxwing once again present along Nash Road at 11:30am, and a few other good year ticks. Other sightings included 7 Snipes west, 9 Golden Plovers, 50 Lapwings, 1 Woodcock, 1 Reed Bunting, 15 Fieldfares, 6 Redwings, 60 Linnets, 1 Pied Wagtail, 3 Ring-necked Parakeets, 15 Meadow Pipits, 20 Starlings, 20 Stock Doves, 7 Common Gulls and 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Late on at 3pm, 2 Waxwings reappeared at Nash Road for 10 minutes.

Monday 21st January

2 Waxwings reappeared in Nash Road at 8:10am only.

Sunday 20th January

Just a brief visit today with the highlight being a female Peregrine over the cement works.

Thursday 17th January

A 2 hour visit on the patch produced only my 2nd ever record of Jack Snipe which I flushed from last years Stone Curlew field near the paddocks, the bird then proceeded to call as it headed off towards the rubbish dump. In high spirits I continued on and recorded 2 Common Snipes, 215 Fieldfares, 50 Redwings, 300 Lapwings, 1 rather large female Peregrine, 10 Grey Partridges, 61 Linnets, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 10 Chaffinches, 4 Green Woodpeckers, 30 Starlings, and 5 Common Gulls.

*NEW BIRD FOR THE PATCH*

Well this year has certainly started off well but I certainly didn't expect this much sorted added bonus. I ventured onto the patch at 11:30am, to which had a good feeling about it with 110 Fieldfares chattering overhead, and a total of 90 Redwings which did the opposite and stayed around the cemo. But the star of the day was to follow when a few gulls went mad by the rubbish dump, I went over to find out what the racket was and to my shock there was a GOSHAWK, originally heading towards Garlinge but instead decided to sit of fence posts near Shottendane Track, the bird was distant but showed well through the added bonus of the good old telescope, and stayed around for 15 minutes before heading off in a westerly direction. Also noted was 1 Woodcock,  232 Lapwings, 20 Common Gulls, 3 Linnets, 1 Kestrel, 3 Skylarks, 70 Wood Pigeons, 20 Starlings, 2 Meadow Pipit, 1 each of Green and Great Spotted Woodpecker, 10 Magpies and 20 Crows.

Monday 14th January

A quick half hour visit to the cemo produced 3 Woodcocks, 2 Goldcrests and 5 Goldfinches.

Tuesday 8th January

1 Waxwing still present along Nash Road, and a visit to the cemo was a little better producing 1 Little Owl, 13 Siskins, 1 Redwing, 1 Meadow Pipit, 2 Pied Wagtails, 5 Skylarks, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 4 Common Gulls, 70 Black-headed Gulls, 1 Long-tailed Tit, 3 Chaffinches, 7 Ring-necked Parakeets, 2 Goldfinches, 89 Crows, 35 Starlings, 25 Linnets and 80 Wood Pigeons.

Monday 7th January

4 Waxwings still present in same location.

Sunday 6th January

3 Waxwings still present along Nash Road.

Saturday 5th January

An early morning visit produced 7 Waxwings feeding on rose hip berries along Nash Road Margate, to which 3 birds headed west at 8am, but 4 birds remained from yesterday, today Dave Gilbert joined me and we watched the birds for another good 45 minutes before they headed off over nearby houses, this was followed by a brief visit to the cemo which produced 1 Goldcrest, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Chaffinches and 3 Common Gulls (certainly quiet I must say).

Friday 4th January

Waxwings
Well what a great start to the year and even better when they are on your patch. My first visit and the first birds I saw was 4 Waxwings which showed very well for 45 minutes originally along Nash Road Margate and then near the allotments to which they continued to perform. After a good hour or so I continued on into, and around the cemo to which I also recorded 2 Peregrines, 1 Sparrowhawk, 23 Skylarks, 2 Common Gulls, 4 Linnets, 2 Goldfinches, 1 Pied Wagtail, 60 Starlings, 2 Chaffinches, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 4 Long-tailed Tits, 45 Black-headed Gulls, 400 Wood Pigeons, 6 Stock Doves, 1 Cormorant east, 19 Ring-necked Parakeets and 13 Magpies.
